Blessings!!
This week was a weird week... we were quarantined for most of the time! But it was fun! I got to bake some brownies, and make some manicotti! It was so yummy- made me kinda feel like I was home and making dinner for my family!
We had a friend who wanted to learn about pride and ego- and I studied a bunch about it haha- and I was brought to the story of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. The king found no fault in him, but it was his pride that caught him- he "loved the praise of men more than the praise of God." (John 12:43)Thats the sin of being prideful- God created us, and knows what is best for us... we should be worried about what he thinks of us. Another scripture that I was brought to was 1 Nephi 8:28. I had never really been bothered by it before, but the word ashamed really hit me. Why did they have any reason to be ashamed? Their pride. Haha fun tidbit to lighten it up- in the verse before- it says that "their manner of dress was exceedingly fine." Is that what you want people to remember of you? Not that you were happy or kind- but you dressed good? Haha- NO! So.. I guess don't be prideful.
The other thing I studied this week was how the gospel blesses individuals and families! Because there are an infinite amount of blessings!
The definition of "to bless" is to confer prosperity or happiness on. This reminded me of how in the scriptures the prophets always say when we keep the commandments we will prosper in the land and we can receive blessings when we trust in God and repent everyday. A definition of "blessed" is to be highly favored or fortunate. I remembered 1 Nephi 1:1 where it says "and having seen many afflictions in the course of my days, nevertheless, having being highly favored of the lord." When we are blessed, it doesn't mean that we won't face adversity- but to have prosperity and happiness- just like in the definition of "to bless."
One of the things that brings us joy is the gospel- which means good tidings. So in reality the phrase "the Gospel blesses individuals and families" is not very creative- to know the gospel is to be blessed. What kind of blessings do we have because of our knowledge- hope, reassurance, repentance...
One thing I love about this gospel is that it isn't hidden- the prophets have said that the fulness of the gospel can be found in the Bible and the book of Mormon. The people who have these two books, can know for themselves how to find the fulness of the gospel- inside these books are the instructions to recieve and make everlasting Covenants with God.
Our friends from PerĂº- the one with the two cute little Boys, she came back from visiting her family... she bought my companion and I scarves/shawls there! They are so cool! It was so sweet of her!
Haha I'm staying in garland! Guess I'm here for Christmas!!!
My question for this week is: What does it mean to be highly of the lord?
