Upheld By Thy Righteous

This week I studied Obedience. Before I go on about what I learned this week... fun fact: "Frogs can't swallow with their eyes open"... haha just kidding. Even though that is a fun fact I have one more spiritual (but let me know what that quote is from). My fun fact is that the word "command" is used when Jesus was casting out demons, performing miracles, and creating the world:) Amazing things happened because Jesus commanded. In Matthew 4:4 it says "man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God." Also in the 3rd Article of Faith it says "we believe that through the atonement of Jesus Christ, all mankind may be saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the gospel." We are saved by obedience. We recieve eternal life by being obedient. Not only will being obedient bless our lives here on earth but also after we die! I honestly don't really know how to explain my thoughts on this... but...

Small And Simple Things

Hola hola! I hope that you all had an amazing week! It's citrus season here, so we picked a whole bunch of grapefruits again. We also helped pull weeds and do some other yardwork. The weather here is beautiful! Everyone keeps telling us that it's really cold for this time of year, but I'm not complaining haha. The past couple of weeks have been in the 70s. It's amazing! We had a few more lessons with Daniela and her family last week. Her kids are named Denali and Victor, and her fiance's name is Armando. Armando and Victor both have not been baptized, but they told us that they want to be baptized! Daniela and Armando are still trying to figure out which day they are going to get married, so we aren't sure which day we can have the baptism yet. They all came to church yesterday and loved it! They are such a cute and fun family, and I'm so excited to continue helping them learn more about the gospel.   Maria, the woman who was baptized in December, came with ...

Success?

This week I studied enduring to the end. And one thing my mission president said was that we really just need to endure till sunday... and then do it again, and again... we can do that, right? In James 1:5 it says "we count them happy which endure." But in Spanish it is a little bit different. It says "tenemos por bienaventurados a los que sufren" which actually translates to we consider blessed those who suffer." Thats interesting isn't it? But it made me think about those who have suffered hardships and how their testimonies have become stronger and how they can see God in their lives. But I think they are blessed when they choose to turn to God and endure to the end, else they are sliding down the hill. During our last zone conference my mission president explained the difference between repetitive, and iterative. Repetitive is when a train is driving in a circle on the same plane. But iterative is when the train is driving in a circle climbing a mountai...

This week I studied about the Holy Ghost. I don't have anything crazy to share besides some thoughts.  One thing that I really like is how the Holy Ghost is the source if our testimony. In 1 Corinthians 2:11 it says "the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God." No offense to our kind, but we know nothing when it comes to the spiritual things. When we came to this earth, a veil was placed over our minds and we forgot everything. So we need the Holy Ghost to teach us, so that we can gain testimonies of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It also reminds me of how we can all listen to the same talk, or scripture, and recieve something different. And we can read the same thing a different day, and learn something totally different. The Holy Ghost tutors each of us personally and teaches us to our needs if we willing to listen.  Throughout the scriptures we can find stories of when people reject comfort (Genesis 37:35, Moses 7:44). And it made me wonder, do we reject comf...

I'm All In

This week I studied Baptism! There were two things that really stood out to me: baptism by inmersion and taking upon us the name of Christ. Jesus Christ was baptized to fulfill all righteousness. We are to be baptized by immersion for the remission of sins and to follow the example of our Loving Brother! There are a bunch of definitions for immersion, one I really liked was complete attention. And the definition for "to immerse" is to devote oneself fully to. This made me start thinking of the phrase "I'm all in" I know that is a phrase used in gambling but let's think about it in a different way... that we are all in in the gospel. When we are baptized we go completely under the water, we also become members of the church- we are in. I like the idea of being immersed in the gospel, in its teachings, and in its blessings. It's the one kind of swimming we can do on the mission. We can study everyday, go to church every week, pray frequently... I'm str...
