Chosen
This week I studied about the Holy Ghost. I don't have anything crazy to share besides some thoughts.
One thing that I really like is how the Holy Ghost is the source if our testimony. In 1 Corinthians 2:11 it says "the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God." No offense to our kind, but we know nothing when it comes to the spiritual things. When we came to this earth, a veil was placed over our minds and we forgot everything. So we need the Holy Ghost to teach us, so that we can gain testimonies of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It also reminds me of how we can all listen to the same talk, or scripture, and recieve something different. And we can read the same thing a different day, and learn something totally different. The Holy Ghost tutors each of us personally and teaches us to our needs if we willing to listen.
Throughout the scriptures we can find stories of when people reject comfort (Genesis 37:35, Moses 7:44). And it made me wonder, do we reject comfort? I know that at times in our lives we are in desperate needs of love and comfort, and we may want that comfort- but do we turn to Jesus Christ and let the Holy Ghost comfort us? I guess it is just a question to ask yourself. Are you accepting the comfort you need right now?
I also like how in Acts 9:17-18 it talks about how after baptism we are filled with the Holy Ghost. Filled. To be filled, is to have no more space. When we are filled with the Holy Ghost, we are filled with the Love of God, the light of Christ, etc. When we are filled with the Holy Ghost, we are full of good things- there is no room to desire other things. How can you be more full of the Holy Ghost?
Another thing that I studied this week was being chosen. I've read that scripture in Matthew so many times, and honestly never really understood it. But now I do! When we "are chosen" we are really choosing- we have chosen. In Alma 10:6 he says "I was called many times, and I would not hear." God does not have favorites, not like our parents don't have favorites... I know who the favorite is in my family... but God will call soo many of us. But we have to accept. We can see this in the story of Nephi and his family. Let's compare Neohi, Laman, and Lemuel... they had all been commanded to do things, they had all seen angels, they had all been blessed... they had all been called. But Nephi chose to he chosen. He trusted in God and aligned his will to that of his. Unfortunately, Laman and Lemuel weren't chosen.
We can each recieve a church calling, but we also each have to accept it- and if we decide to accept it, and decide to magnify our callings we will be chosen. Missionaries receive a call, and they also have to send a message back accepting their call. But we also have to magnify our calling, we can choose to just be here physically... or do everything we can to really want to be here and help those around us. God has a plan for each one of us, what can you do to choose to be chosen?
This week not too much happened, on our way to teach the English class it was raining... so there was mud, and we walked into class with mud splattered all up our backs... which was actually pretty funny!
We did a bunch of contacting in a park, and this older man came and he had a pocket full of peanuts. I guess he comes everyday around the same time to feed this one squirrel that he found one year that was looking pretty scrawny. He has literally tried this squirrel to come when he whistles and climb up his pant leg to his knee to grab this peanut. He left a pile of peanuts at the base of the tree... so I grabbed a couple and I made friends with the squirrel! We named her Rosy!! So... I got to feed a squirrel a peanut! We are buying peanuts at the store this week to give her!
