Be Where You Are

This week was pretty darn good! Nothing crazy happened... but I'm gonna share a funny story. Once upon a time my companion (Hermana Foley) and I were doing weekly planning... when out of the blue we see a cockroach scuttling across the floor. I'm not gonna be dramatic, it wasn't too big, but neither of us had shoes on to get it. Hermana Foley ran to grab one of her shoes, and killed it then turned to me and said your turn. This half-dead trespasser was just lying in the middle of the floor, and I guess I got to throw it away. Anyway it was funnier than it sounds. But maybe when I get home I'll be less afraid of killing bugs haha... But this week I studied Baptism and Confirmation, the commandment. And I spent a lot of time thinking about what are the reasons why Baptism and Confirmation are commandments. And honestly, I didn't come up with anything cool or new. The reason why we need to be Baptised is fairly easy to find and recognize; We need to be baptized and con...

And Ye Shall Find Rest.

This week I studied about keeping the Sabbath Day Holy!! So what does holy mean? When something is holy it is belonging to, derived from or associated with divine power. So in short, how can we keep the Sabbath day holy? We associate it with Christ. The end. Just kidding... In Luke 22:19 it says " this do in remembrance of me" or do this in my memory. Sunday is a special day, a day to help others (Matt. 12:10), partake of the sacrament, remember the Savior, and to rest. I love the scripture Mark 2:27. "Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath." Sometimes life is hard, its just how it is, but God was kind enough to give us a day where we can rest, "wherewith [he] may cause the weary to rest" (Isaiah 28:12). The definition of weary is to exhaust or get stressed through overuse or great strain or stress. Are you really stressed? Are you tired? Make your Sunday a special day, and I know you will be rejuvenated!  "And to you who are troubled rest ...

"If You Want To Change The Shape Of Your Life Change The Shape Of Your Day."

This week we had zone conference and there was a focus on repentance and taking the next step forward. In the scriptures, it always says "the kingdom of heaven is at hand." And I've always thought that it meant that Jesus is coming soon and we needed to be ready. Which it might mean that too. But my eyes were opened to the idea that it also means that the kingdom of heaven is in reach. I love thinking about it like that, it's so hopeful and that's what repentance should be like. We can have the blessings of the Kingdom of Heaven, all we need to do is repent, or take the sacrament, or perform other sacred promises with our Loving Father. Someone else also mentioned a pattern when Jesus is healing during his Earthly Ministy. First they were forgiven of their sins, and then the healing happened or began. We need to ask for forgiveness in order to feel that peace and that healing inside of us. I love 3 Nephi 9:13; "will ye not now return unto me, and repent of yo...

Cinnamon Rolls

Image
I'll explain why cinnamon rolls is my email title. One thing I remember about general conference when I was younger is that my mom would make cinnamon rolls. In the October conference I was homesick for those cinnamon rolls. This general conference for the Saturday morning session a senior missionary couple invited us to watch it with them... she bought cinnamon rolls to share with us for breakfast. It was a small thing, and she has no idea how much it meant to me. It was just a little piece of home. It was a tender mercy. Thank you Sister Wintch. This week I studied the commandment to pray often. In the Garden of Gethsemane and also when he fasted for 40 days he was aligning his will with that of his father. The Bible dictionary states that "we pray in Christ's name when our mind is he mind of Christ, and our wishes the wishes of Christ." I'm trying to make this seem less like a really heavy scripture based talk but, remember Nephi (son of helaman) and how he was...
