I'm All In
This week I studied Baptism! There were two things that really stood out to me: baptism by inmersion and taking upon us the name of Christ.
Jesus Christ was baptized to fulfill all righteousness. We are to be baptized by immersion for the remission of sins and to follow the example of our Loving Brother! There are a bunch of definitions for immersion, one I really liked was complete attention. And the definition for "to immerse" is to devote oneself fully to. This made me start thinking of the phrase "I'm all in" I know that is a phrase used in gambling but let's think about it in a different way... that we are all in in the gospel. When we are baptized we go completely under the water, we also become members of the church- we are in. I like the idea of being immersed in the gospel, in its teachings, and in its blessings. It's the one kind of swimming we can do on the mission. We can study everyday, go to church every week, pray frequently... I'm striving to be more immersed in the gospel of Jesus Christ every day.
The other think I liked was that we take Christ's name upon us. And doing it as a missionary makes me think of it more. I'm going everywhere with Christ's name, and people see that, would I want them seeing me mad at someone? Or would I want them to see me helping someone? The answer is obvious. After we are baptized we have an invisible pin that says we are a disciple of Jesus Christ that we can't take off. People can see the light of Christ, and they can see us. When you think of Jesus Christ, what comes to mind?
I guess baptism is pretty cool!
This week we finally got to know this friend who has been coming to church, but has been in our areabook for ages. We started talking to him and his wife was a member, and he's been investigating the church for 11-13 years (I can't remember which). But he told us that he wanted to be baptized, that he'd studied and prayed and he knew that Joseph Smith was a prophet, and that he saw God and Jesus Christ. We haven't taught him a thing. You never know the impact you can have on someone's life. I know that if he gets baptized it won't be because of my efforts, but because of the efforts of his wife, family, friends, and past missionaries. Don't get discouraged if you don't see your efforts to share the gospel changing lives. Keep sharing the light you carry!
This week we had a tornado watch:) because of mission rules we couldn't leave our apartment... and we had go stay away from windows... so we got to teach some last minute lessons in our closet! They were some really good lessons though that wouldn't have happened if we couldn't have done our previously planned activities! God has his own plans, and he will make sure that they happen! Oh and all is good! There is no damage because of the Tornado!
This week I also learned how go make flour tortillas with a member!! It was super fun!
The question for this week is: What does it mean to you to take upon you the name of Christ?
