Upheld By Thy Righteous
This week I studied Obedience. Before I go on about what I learned this week... fun fact: "Frogs can't swallow with their eyes open"... haha just kidding. Even though that is a fun fact I have one more spiritual (but let me know what that quote is from). My fun fact is that the word "command" is used when Jesus was casting out demons, performing miracles, and creating the world:) Amazing things happened because Jesus commanded.
In Matthew 4:4 it says "man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God." Also in the 3rd Article of Faith it says "we believe that through the atonement of Jesus Christ, all mankind may be saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the gospel." We are saved by obedience. We recieve eternal life by being obedient. Not only will being obedient bless our lives here on earth but also after we die! I honestly don't really know how to explain my thoughts on this... but I guess just think about it!
In Deuteronomy 8:6 it says "keep the commandments of God to walk in his ways." This made me think about when we are younger and we just want to do what our parents are doing, or what our older siblings are doing... we want to follow in their footsteps. We might ask them what they are doing, or how they are doing that so that we can do it too. Guess what... that's how the gospel is too. Except we don't have to ask, God had given us the commandments and the way by which we can become like him. That's pretty amazing. Our older brother, Jesus, even set the perfect example for us so that we can become like him! Every little siblings dream! (I would know!!)
It's easy to think of commandments as restrictions, but that's not even close to what they are. They are a manuel to living with God again in eternal rest.
Sorry that I don't have any crazy stories this week, but we visited a member named Hermana Collazo. And she is just a Gem. I am constantly learning two things from her because she always says them. "I don't have favorites" and "no matter how busy I am, I always have time for you." She hates the phrase "I don't have time." And I have to agree with her. People are important, and they should be treated that way. I guess I just want to invite you all to think about what she says- "No matter how busy I am, I always have time for you." Whether it's your family, your personal study, prayers, or a friend. In reality we always have a little bit of time. Even if it's only for a verse, a call, a text, etc. I hope that I can be like this Hermana.
My ward asked my companion and I to sing for Easter Sunday. "El Cristo es" or "This is the Christ." So we have been practicing that a little... I will let you guys know how it goes!!
Also there is a picture of our cockroach friend that lives in our clock...
