"I'm Still Standing"

I studied the three kingdoms of glory! One thing that I really liked was that it's really based on your testimony of Jesus Christ. I was reading in Doctrine and Covenants 76, and it was so cool how if we have a valiant testimony (vs. 79) we will go to the celestial kingdom! I know that it's such simple doctrine, but that's why it's so good! The steps to grow your testimony are simple too! Study the scriptures, pray with a sincere heart, go to church, love others.... they are things that don't take much!
Another thing I studied this week was being holy. "Prepare yourselves, and sanctify yourselves, yea, purify your hearts, and cleanse your hands and your feet before me, that I may make you clean" (D&C 88:74). On our own we will never be holy- we will never be pure, we will never be perfect. But we don't have to. All he expects us to do is to practice virtue and holiness before [him] continually" (D&C 46:33). Practice, all we have to do is practice.
I remember in cheer when we would be practicing and practicing a routine until it was "perfect" so we could perform it. But the time for us to perform our holiness won't come. We are in this stage of practice until we die. We can make mistakes- as long as we correct them the next time through. Don't get discouraged.

Since I've started the mission, I'm constantly reminded of how there is always a way to improve- and sometimes its mind boggling. Looking at myself before the mission- I'm a little astonished at the habits I have made and the new desires that I have. Sometimes I think for a moment that I just need to keep doing what I'm doing! I've made it! That's never how it is- there is always a way to be more obedient, more kind, more willing... be happy with what you have- because God gave it to you... but don't be satisfied with the now. You can become better everyday. You don't have to wait for a reminder or an invitation. And well... if you feel like you do here is your invitation. But don't take it from me. In a talk by Wendy Nelson called "one question that can change your life" she gives us a question. Please take this question to heart and apply it to yourself.

This week was a week! It snowed here like actually snowed- enough that our mission wasn't allowed to drive for a couple days due to the fact that it froze and was complete ice. So we walked everywhere and I almost made it. I'd been walking on the ice carefully for 2 days- so I didn't slip! And we were walking to a members house for dinner and I had the song "I'm still standing" from sing in my head, yah know proud of myself that I haven't fallen yet... I jinxed it. By the time we had made it to their house I had fallen 5 times:) My lovely companion took a picture for us to enjoy!

This was our first sunday without a car! So we got to ride our bike the 40 minutes to church! It was pretty good weather, we will see if biking is a new hobby when I get home...

My question for the week is: How can you make your home more holy?
