Drunkedness
This week was a quick one! But I studied the Word of Wisdom!!!
The definition of Wisdom is the ability to apply knowledge, experience, understanding or common sense and insight. And our loving Heavenly Father definitely is wise! 2 Nephi 2:24 says " in the Wisdom of him who knoweth all things." Our Father in heaven is all-knowing, and all-loving. Which is why he gave us this word of advice... this Word of Wisdom. He gave us this amazing law so that we can know how to have strong bodies that can withstand trials and temptations! It's completely for us. It reminds me of something I've had to explain to people sometimes... the missionaries don't get anything if you read the Book of Mormon or if you pray, or come to church, but we are giving them "advice" so that they can know for themselves of the joy and freeness of the Gospel! It's the same thing with God. What does he get if we keep the Word of Wisdom? Maybe some joy? We recieve so many blessings when we keep this law! And one of the ways we can keep it is through temperance.
In 1 Corinthians 9:25 it says "and every man that striveth for mastery is temperate in all things." When I think of Mastery, I think of the talk by President Nelson when he explained that it's really not mind over matter, but spirit over body. We are here on this earth to achieve this Spirit over Body and return to our Loving Heavenly father! And so that means eating healthy and taking care of your body!!! And not putting things in your body that could hurt you!
"It is neither good to... [partake of] anything whereby your brother stumbled, or is offended, or is made weak" (Romans 14:41). There are so many things that can weaken our bodies, or cause us to stumble, but for some reason I really focused on drunkenness. I remembered the stories in the Book of Mormon and how in the war chapters its so often when they use or try to use wine to weaken or to gain power over their enemies. I don't think that if something was used to weaken ones enemy that we should be putting in into our bodies.
There are so many dangers and hard things going on in the world today, and we are faced with it everyday. We need that strength in order to keep strong and move along, and make it back to our Heavenly Home.
And now a slight change in pace... it's funny that I mention dangers... because a week or so ago I got a lovely bug bite. At least we assume so. Well a week later it was a huge red splotch and I got to make a trip to the urgent care!! Nothing crazy haha! I Just get to take some antibiotics! But it was a great way to start my morning haha with a call to the mission nurse!!
This week English classes were super fun, I got to teach a lesson on how to cook things where I got to listen to people try to explain recipes in Spanish... some were adventurous and did Latino recipes, where others did cereal. It was so fun! If you ever get a chance to teach an English class, take it!
We are teaching this really fun little family, and in this family is a 7-year-old. She's a gem! We were teaching them about the Book of Mormon and we read through a little in 1 Nephi 1 and watched the videos that show it, and she kept asking where Nephi was and why the people were so mean to Lehi and why they were throwing things and mocking him. It was a reminder that questions are good, never be afraid to ask a question, because there is always someone who will know something you don't!
Lastly, the power of priesthood blessings is real, if you ever feel or have an impression to ask for one- do it! You will always hear what you need. I know the priesthood has been restored to the earth, and I'm grateful to know so many worthy priesthood holders! Thank you!!!
My question of the week is: What is the scriptures you would use to describe who Jesus Christ is in your life?
