One Goal
One thing that I studied this week was how to be one. And the picture perfect example of being one is the city of Enoch, "And the Lord called his people Zion, because they were of one heart and one mind, and dwelt in righteousness; and there was no poor among them" (Moses 7:18). Our long term goal as a society is to become like Zion to be of one heart and one mind. But how do we do that? Is it even possible to have everyone thinking on the same page? Yes. Galatians 3:27-28 says "For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus." From this scripture I learned that to be one is another way of saying to be a family, to want what is best for others and strive to help them as you would your own family. When that clicked in my head, I thought about how cool ministering is then, because it is through ministering to those of our church and those without that we are able to grow our family and serve them as we create long-lasting friendships.
This week I we had a PMG activity with ward members to help them better understand what we teach. We had planned to go through the restoration, and ended up barely getting to the atonement... not even touching the restored principles. But it was still good, because the members were participating and asking questions! It's crazy to notice how some members don't know what we do as missionaries or how we do it.
We did have one lesson with a recent convert who is a little inactive... he hasn't been to church the whole time that I've been in this ward. But we planned well and felt we should invite a certain hermano to join us, and what we didn't know was that this hermano had baptized this recent convert, so as we read through and discussed the baptismal interview questions the hermano was able to really talk to and help him see that by not coming to church he was only hurting himself, and he shouldn't feel nervous to come back.
This is a quick story, but an hermana who we ate dinner with was talking about how she loved to be home because she was comfortable there. And one thing she said was if you are comfortable in and love your home it is because the Holy Ghost can dwell there. I thought that was cool.
